Peek-a-boo

This morning during breakfast, Cahlin got a bit distracted, got down from the table and started playing peek-a-boo with Eyan. Lately, Eyan has been really interested in Cahlin, and the last few days, Cahlin has been able to get him laughing really hard.

7 months

So I'm a few days behind, but at least it's getting done. Eyan turned 7 months old on Saturday, and has been a joy to have around every single day of the last 7 months. It's so funny to see the differences in his personality and Cahlin's even at such a young age. He is so different from what Cahlin was. I guess that's the Lord's gift to us to keep us from getting bored. Eyan has always loved to watch his older brother. The other day we were in the car. Eyan and Cahlin sit far enough away from each other that Cahlin can't reach him, but Eyan had been watching Cahlin from his carseat. When Cahlin realized that he was being watched, he took advantage, and started making faces and funny noises at Eyan to get him to laugh. Eyan thought it was hilarious! I was able to get in on a recording on my phone. There's nothing that brightens a bad day better than getting my phone out and listening to the boys laugh together. It is so much fun to see them become friends and build a relationship. They are such a blessing to have in our lives.

Fun at aunt Melinda's house

Dale and Melinda and their family have been so generous to accept two new members into their family during the day while I am at work, or at least treat them like they are. Cahlin and Calloway are becoming great friends... sometimes great friends fight and hit and yell, but they're great friends nonetheless, and it seems like they are always doing the same things. If Calloway is playing with a truck, Cahlin is playing with a truck. If Cahlin is on the swings, Calloway is on the swings. If Calloway is looking for bugs, you'd better believe Cahlin is down in the dirt looking with him. It has been so fun to watch them become buds, and I am so appreciative to everyone for their help and support!

FHE pictures

I posted a blog about FHE the other day. I still can't get the movie to upload right, but here are some pictures from our excursion to the pumpkin patch courtesy of the Desmonds! Cahlin had a ton of fun with his cousins going through the pumpkin patch and the straw bale maze. He still asks me every day or two if we can go see the pumpkins!

Dale titled this one Children of the Corn...

I'm willing to accept that I may be a bit biased, but I have the two cutest little boys ever!

Cahlin had some difficulty keeping the pumpkin on his lap.

First Snow

This weekend, we got maybe an inch of snow. all of the kids were so excited to wake up and see it snowing. Makenna and Whitney scooted Eyan's chair over to the window so that he could take in the experience... Notice how focused he is on the snow... I don't even think he noticed anything beyond that teething ring, but I'm sure that subconsciously, the experience will have a deep and lasting effect.

Lesson Learned

As a parent, there are a few things that experience teaches you which I have learned:

1. If you go somewhere, and don't pack a change of clothes, that will be the one day you will need it, and you will have to chose between letting your kids go naked, or wearing clothes that are either stained, ripped, or covered in... you get the idea
2. Kids have an inate sense to locate anything that stains, breaks, smells, or makes any kind of mess, and will find it, so it is better to just not have nice things.

The list could go on and on, but apparently, I haven't learned the second lesson well enough as I left a jar of baby food on Eyan's tray, and turned around to help Cahlin with his breakfast... You can figure out the rest. But he looks like he's having a good time, and I guess that's what's important!

Family Home Evening

A few days ago, one of our advertising clients came into the office to talk about putting a few ads on the air for his new ice cream shop, and gave me some coupons to redeem in his store. So for family home evening, after visiting a pumpkin patch with Dale and Melinda and their family, the boys and I went to take a look. The unique thing about the ice cream they make is that it is made with liquid nitrogen (a gas that holds a temperature of less than 300 degrees below zero fahrenheit). I have a video clip from my phone that I have been trying to post, but I can only get sound and no video. I'll try a few things later to post it. Cahlin was mesmerized by the whole process. He stood at the edge of the bar and watched very quietly and intently. They let him put his hand in the liquid nitrogen, and the guys working there were really entertaining, and included him in the process. Then we took it home to share, and had songs and a lesson compliments of the Johanson family.
